Hello friends! Now that I've given myself a day to chill out, I'm back to discuss the state of the project and planned updates.
Update Roadmap
What's missing from 0.9.0? Well, pretty significantly, two major scenes--Chapters 3 and 5, basically (the Keeper's Quarters and the Fresnel Lens). To be clear, they ARE written, I just ran out of time to implement everything into Ren'py (which can be quite finicky in NVL-mode). Likewise, the finished art and backgrounds from those chapters are also missing, as well as finished character sprites from the remaining chapters. And since the Fresnel Lens chapter contains the ending sequence, the choices currently implemented do nothing (they increment the ending variable but there's no payoff). Therefore:
0.9.1 -- The first order of business is just to get all the writing in. It's simple enough, and it's already written, just time consuming. If all you care about is the story and don't mind missing visuals, this should be the soonest "complete" version you can play. It will hopefully be done within a day or two but also I don't want to tempt fate by guaranteeing a specific deadline.
0.9.2 -- Story, but with more visuals! All the currently-finished-but-missing-from-the-code sprites should be in, as well as the missing backgrounds. I probably won't have all CGs (Illustrations) ready just yet but sketches/thumbnails may be in. Again, this should be a few more day's work but depends on how my IRL commitments are looking. Hopefully within this week or next week.
Saturday, July 19th -- I will be demo'ing this game at an event so I want the version I show to have as many missing elements as possible! They will probably be frontloaded to chapters 1 and 2 (the Office and Cape West exterior) since I don't know how long people will actually stop and play the game for.
0.9.3 -- All missing images, text, and CGs implemented and possibly a few extras. This would be the soonest "story and art" complete version I'd be happy to show freely.
So what's in 1.0?
All of the above but with a ton more polish, proper transitions and visual effects, animated sprites, fully-rendered illustrations, unlockable gallery items (beyond the few currently in 0.9.0), more accessibility options (window color/opacity, disable VFX and sounds, other tweaks), basically what I would consider to be the Actually Complete Game. I don't have a deadline for this but hopefully by the end of August, maybe September.
What about the Portuguese-BR version?
Believe it or not, I simultaneously wrote the script in both English and Portuguese (in fact some scenes were in Portuguese first which motivated me to finish the English script). So the translation is also ready, it's just a matter of finishing implementing the English script so that I can use Ren'py's "generate translations" feature. It's much easier to work with that from a finished script than to try to re-generate and implement them in a WIP. So, the Portuguese-BR translation should be available as soon as 0.9.1, if I can handle it! If not then certainly with 0.9.2.
