Although still behind schedule, this week still managed to go relatively well! 

I managed to finish writing one chapter (minus editing). Another is very close to completion, and the remaining has been chipped away at so that I can see myself finishing them very soon, probably within the next couple of days.

However, it was clear I simply could not wait any longer to finish writing the story before I had to start putting the skeleton of the actual Ren’Py file together. So that is what I spent today doing: setting up the GUI, putting in placeholder images, putting in text from the completed chapter and making sure it all aligned properly, and that I knew how to display and hide images at the right moments.

There are still some problems to iron out. One particular problem involves the click-to-continue indicator, and it seems every time I try to fix that problem I end up breaking something else. But leaving it off feels so empty, particularly in a NVL-style game where you are clicking through pages of text rather than dialogue boxes. So good luck to me I guess!

For this week I’m going to try to rearrange the things I’m behind on so that I can at least catch up the parts that are most critical and once I finish up the writing it should be a lot smoother to integrate them into the project.

But, most significantly… it has been very motivational to see just how excited people are for this project. Everyone I mention it to seems to think the premise is very cool. Of course, a cool premise means nothing without the capacity to deliver on it… But I’d like to believe I’m up to the task!

Next week—not this upcoming one, but the one after—I had scheduled myself to start on the art. I’m thinking I need to move some of that up because my energy levels have been rather poor, so I will need time to recover in between drawing sessions. Let’s see how it goes from here.
